October 2026 Movies & TV Series: What Comic and Geek Fans Should Watch

I’m excited for October. It’s honestly one of my favourite times of the year.

The weather starts changing, the colours change with it and the nights get colder and darker. What better excuse is there to get comfy, stick a film on or accidentally binge an entire series when you only planned to watch one episode?

We’ve already created a Fandom Topic for our favourite things to watch around Halloween, including classics like Hocus Pocus or, if you’re after something considerably more terrifying, the Friday the 13th collection.

Friday the 13th… not for me, thank you.

But October isn’t just about going back through the classics. There’s quite a bit of new stuff arriving this month too and a few of these I’m genuinely excited about.

Carrie – October 7

I’ll admit I’ve never really got into any of the Carrie movies.

I’m not a massive horror watcher anyway, although I think I’m finally getting to an age where I can stop hiding behind a pillow waiting for the jump scares.

I say that, but I did exactly that through Insidious and The Conjuring, so maybe I’ve learnt absolutely nothing.

This new version of Carrie has got my attention though. Rather than another movie it’s an eight-episode series, with Mike Flanagan behind it and Summer H. Howell playing Carrie White.

There’s been quite a bit of hype around this one and I think the longer series format could suit Carrie’s story. There’s more time to actually get into the characters rather than rushing from one horrible event to the next.

Maybe I’m finally ready for Carrie.

Maybe.

Matchbox: The Movie – October 9

This is a strange one because I’ve barely seen anything about it.

Maybe I’ve somehow missed all the advertising, but for a new Apple movie with John Cena in it, I expected Matchbox to be everywhere by now.

John Cena plays Sean, an undercover CIA agent who ends up pulling his childhood friends into an international mission. Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira and Corey Stoll are in there too, so it’s hardly a small cast.

I really like Cena as Peacemaker. He’s ace in that role and he’s become one of those actors where I’ll probably give something a watch just because he’s in it.

Plus it’s Matchbox. I think most of us had a box full of those little cars somewhere as kids.

So yeah, despite Apple apparently forgetting to tell me this film exists, I’ll be watching.

VisionQuest – October 14

This is the big one for me this month.

I’m really excited to see Vision return and, probably more importantly, see how he actually handles the Marvel universe on his own.

We’ve been waiting since WandaVision to find out what happened to White Vision after his memories were restored and he disappeared. Now we’re finally going to find out what he’s been doing all this time.

Then you’ve got Ultron.

James Spader is back as Ultron and that’s the bit that’s really got me wondering where they’re going with this. Ultron created Vision, Vision helped destroy Ultron and now somehow we’re going to have them both back in the same story.

Is this going to be one massive mind twister?

Probably. It’s Marvel.

I’m also interested to see whether any of this starts feeding into Avengers: Doomsday. We’re getting very close now and I can’t imagine Marvel bringing Vision and Ultron back together without there being something bigger behind it.

Either way, this is the one I’ll be watching first.

Crystal Lake – October 15

And straight back to me hiding behind the pillow.

Crystal Lake takes us back into the Friday the 13th world, with Linda Cardellini playing Pamela Voorhees.

I really like Linda Cardellini, which is probably the main reason I’m tempted by this one. Rather than just chucking Jason in a mask and having him chase people around for eight episodes, this goes back before the original movie and explores how everything started.

I’m hoping that means it’s going to lean more into the psychological side of the story rather than just spending eight hours waiting for something to jump out of a cupboard.

If it doesn’t, the pillow is coming back out.

Street Fighter – October 16

Ready… FIGHT!

That noise is basically part of my childhood.

Getting home from school, switching on the SNES and desperately trying to remember how to pull off all the special moves with some ridiculously rapid finger action.

Easy now.

I actually liked the 90s Street Fighter movie too. Yes, it was cheesy and some of it hasn’t exactly aged brilliantly, but considering what they had to work with at the time I still think it’s a really enjoyable film.

So I’m excited to see what they do with a modern version.

The new movie goes back into Ryu and Ken’s history and that’s probably what interests me more than simply seeing how many characters they can squeeze onto the screen. If they can get that relationship right and build the story around it, rather than relying completely on nostalgia and special moves, this could be a winner.

Although I obviously still want the special moves.

Clayface – October 23

Then we’ve got the weird one.

Clayface getting his own movie still feels like one of those announcements somebody made as a joke and DC just went with it.

But that’s also why I’m interested.

We’ve had Batman. We’ve had Joker. We’ve had different versions of Gotham over and over again, so giving somebody like Clayface the spotlight is something genuinely different.

There’s a lot they can do with him too. It can be a comic book movie, horror, psychological and just downright weird without having to squeeze itself into the normal superhero formula.

Whether it works… I’ve got absolutely no idea.

But I’d rather DC take a few risks like this than give us the same thing every year.

So that’s my October pretty much sorted. VisionQuest is top of my list, Street Fighter has got the nostalgia vote and somehow I’ve talked myself into watching Carrie and Crystal Lake despite knowing full well I’ll regret it when I’m walking around the house in the dark afterwards.

And if none of those grab you, have a look through our Halloween Fandom Topic. We’ve got plenty of older movies and series in there too, from Hocus Pocus to Friday the 13th and everything in between.

Now I just need the weather to realise it’s October, get properly cold outside and give me an excuse not to move off the sofa 🙂
