Jonathan Majors, once seen as the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has reportedly expressed interest in reprising his role as Kang the Conqueror. Majors’ portrayal of Kang was pivotal in establishing the next phase of the MCU, but his future with Marvel was cut short following legal issues.
Majors first appeared as a Kang variant known as He Who Remains in the Disney+ series Loki (2021). Introduced as the mastermind behind the Time Variance Authority (TVA), He Who Remains was portrayed as a calm but menacing figure who controlled the multiverse’s sacred timeline. Majors’ performance was widely praised for its nuance and complexity, setting the stage for Kang’s larger role in the MCU.
Majors then took on the full mantle of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). Kang was presented as a powerful and ruthless villain with mastery over time and dimensions, positioning him as the next major threat to the Avengers and the multiverse. Despite mixed reviews for Quantumania, Majors’ performance was highlighted as a standout element, with Marvel signaling that Kang would play a central role in future films, including Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
However, Majors’ rise was abruptly halted in March 2023 when he was arrested and charged with assault and harassment following an altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Despite maintaining his innocence, Majors was found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in December 2023. Marvel promptly cut ties with Majors, leaving Kang’s future in the MCU uncertain.
Now, Majors is reportedly eager to reclaim the role and continue Kang’s story. However, Marvel has not indicated any plans to bring him back, leaving fans wondering whether the studio will recast Kang or pivot toward a different multiverse villain altogether. Majors’ potential return remains one of the biggest unanswered questions in the MCU’s evolving saga.
