Edward Scissorhands Review

Tim Burton’s suburbia looks like someone spilled pastel paint across a nightmare. Johnny Depp barely needs dialogue to make Edward sympathetic, and Winona Ryder gives the story its ache. What stays with me isn’t the topiary or the haircuts but the speed with which a friendly neighbourhood turns on someone it doesn’t understand. Danny Elfman’s music does the rest. A modern fairy tale with an unusually sharp pair of scissors.
