Men in Black: International is the 2019 spin-off that expands the secret alien-monitoring agency beyond New York and into a global operation. The film follows Molly Wright, who tracks down the Men in Black after a childhood alien encounter and earns her place as Agent M. She is paired with Agent H in London as the duo investigate a possible mole inside the organisation and a dangerous alien weapon. With Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson leading the cast, the film attempts to refresh the comic-based franchise with new agents, new locations and a more international scale. It keeps the gadgets, aliens and memory-wiping chaos, but shifts the focus away from the original J and K partnership.
We have rated Men in Black: International 6 out of 10, because while the cast is likeable and the concept still has potential, the film never finds the spark that made the original trilogy work. Tessa Thompson is a strong lead as Agent M, and Chris Hemsworth brings plenty of charm as Agent H, but the script does not give them enough sharp comedy or memorable alien chaos to play with. The international angle is a good idea, yet the world somehow feels smaller and less surprising than it should. There are fun moments and a few decent creature designs, but it feels more like a brand extension than a must-watch chapter. For franchise completists it belongs in the database, but it is not the neuralyzer-worthy classic fans were hoping for.
