Overview

Addams Family Values (1993) Storyline

Addams Family Values is the 1993 sequel that many fans consider the crown jewel of the Addams screen universe. The story introduces baby Pubert while Uncle Fester falls under the spell of Debbie Jellinsky, a glamorous serial killer posing as the family’s new nanny. Meanwhile, Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to a painfully cheerful summer camp, where Wednesday’s deadpan rebellion becomes one of the franchise’s funniest storylines. The sequel sharpens everything that worked in the 1991 film: the jokes are darker, the satire is stronger and the performances are even more confident. It remains a cult favourite thanks to its gothic style, savage one-liners and glorious celebration of outsiders refusing to fit in.

Addams Family Values (1993) Review 8/10

8

We have rated Addams Family Values 10 out of 10, because this is one of those sequels that somehow improves on an already brilliant first film. The cast is firing on every cylinder, especially Christina Ricci, whose Wednesday gets some of the sharpest and funniest material in the entire franchise. Joan Cusack is fantastic as Debbie, giving the film a villain who is hilarious, glamorous and completely unhinged. The summer camp storyline is comedy gold, turning forced positivity into the true horror of the movie. It is darker, smarter and even more quotable than the 1991 film, while still keeping the Addams family weirdly warm at its core. For us, this is not just a great Addams movie; it is one of the best dark comedies of the 1990s.
