Wednesday is the Netflix series that reimagines Wednesday Addams as a teenage gothic detective at Nevermore Academy. After being expelled from her previous school, Wednesday is sent to the same supernatural boarding school once attended by her parents, Gomez and Morticia. There, she becomes tangled in a murder mystery involving monsters, psychic visions, family secrets and the suspiciously bright horror of having to make friends. Led by Jenna Ortega, the series brings the Addams Family into a modern streaming format while keeping Wednesday’s deadpan intelligence, morbid humour and outsider energy at the centre. The show became a massive pop culture hit, giving the franchise a fresh wave of fans and making Wednesday one of the most recognisable characters on modern television.
We have rated Wednesday 8 out of 10, because it successfully turns one of the Addams Family’s most beloved characters into the lead of her own gothic mystery series. Jenna Ortega is excellent, giving Wednesday the perfect mix of deadpan menace, emotional restraint and hidden vulnerability. The Nevermore Academy setting works well because it gives the show a wider supernatural world without completely losing the Addams identity. Some of the teen mystery beats are familiar, but the style, humour and central performance make the series addictive. The best moments happen when the show remembers that Wednesday is not just a sarcastic outsider, but a character learning how to care without becoming normal. That balance is what makes the series such a strong modern extension of the franchise.
