Game of Thrones

We rate Game of Thrones 9/10 on Comic Movie DB. I loved the series from beginning to end, and for me its biggest achievement is how naturally each season flows into the next. You become attached to different characters as their stories develop, sometimes desperately wanting them to succeed and other times waiting for someone to finally get what they deserve. The clever part is that those feelings can completely change a few episodes or seasons later.

Game of Thrones was also brilliant at making you believe nobody was safe. There are episodes where something happens that you genuinely do not expect the writers to go through with. Just when television logic tells you a character must survive because they are too important to the story, Game of Thrones reminds you that Westeros does not work like that. The series loved shocking its audience, but at its best those shocks were not there simply for attention; they were consequences of decisions, rivalries and mistakes that had been building for episodes.

That unpredictability made it incredibly easy to become invested in the characters. Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Jaime and Cersei Lannister all take very different journeys, and the series regularly makes you reconsider people you thought you understood. Characters can become heroes, villains or something uncomfortably between the two. Add the political manoeuvring, huge battles, dragons, White Walkers and some genuinely outstanding performances and there is very little television that feels quite as ambitious.

The only reason I cannot give Game of Thrones a full 10/10 is the final episode. After spending so many years following these characters, it was not the ending I personally wanted and parts of the conclusion felt less satisfying than the journey that came before it. At the same time, there is something very Game of Thrones about refusing to simply deliver the ending fans expected. This was a series that had spent eight seasons teaching us not to assume the obvious outcome would happen.

One finale does not undo everything that came before it. I loved the overall journey, the characters, the shocks and the way one storyline constantly fed into another. There are episodes I would happily watch again knowing exactly what is coming, which says a lot about how well the series worked. For anyone who has somehow avoided Westeros until now, Game of Thrones remains an easy recommendation — just do not get too comfortable with your favourite character.
