The first proper Ahsoka Season 2 teaser trailer has arrived, and Lucasfilm is promising a considerably bigger conflict when the Star Wars series returns to Disney+ on 20 January 2027.
Unveiled during Disney’s D23 weekend, the footage places Grand Admiral Thrawn’s campaign against the New Republic at the centre of the action. It also confirms that Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker will remain an important presence in Ahsoka Tano’s story, both through Clone Wars-era material and his existence beyond death.
That combination of sweeping fleet battles, lightsaber duels and unfinished relationships makes the teaser feel more like a compact theatrical trailer than an early announcement video. It does not reveal every answer left hanging by the first season, but it certainly establishes the scale of the next chapter.
Thrawn brings war to the New Republic
Season One concluded with Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn escaping Peridea and returning to the main Star Wars galaxy. Ahsoka and Sabine Wren were left stranded on the distant world, while Ezra Bridger successfully made his way home and reunited with the New Republic.
The new footage picks up the consequences of that ending. Thrawn is no longer merely an approaching threat discussed in council chambers: his forces appear ready to engage the New Republic directly. The teaser includes extensive space combat, formations of starfighters and the kind of large-scale military action that has been relatively scarce in the live-action Disney+ shows.
Although the trailer makes the conflict look enormous, it remains unclear how far Thrawn’s campaign will spread or how it connects with Dave Filoni’s wider plans for this period of the timeline. Any comparison with Timothy Zahn’s celebrated Heir to the Empire novels remains interpretation rather than confirmation. This is a different continuity, even if it draws upon some familiar imagery and ideas.
Anakin continues to guide Ahsoka
Hayden Christensen’s return is one of the teaser’s most prominent elements. Anakin is shown maintaining his connection with Ahsoka after the events of Season One, when their reunion in the World Between Worlds forced her to confront both her past and her determination to keep living.
The teaser also indicates that the series will revisit the Clone Wars, with Ariana Greenblatt returning as the younger Ahsoka opposite Christensen’s General Skywalker. Their shared history has become one of the emotional foundations of the live-action series, and Season Two appears ready to explore it further rather than treating Anakin’s previous appearance as a one-off event.
What Anakin wants Ahsoka to understand about being a Jedi may prove especially important. She has spent years distancing herself from the institution that failed her, yet she continues to live by many of its ideals and has taken responsibility for training Sabine. Whether the season formally changes how Ahsoka identifies herself is unknown, but the teaser clearly positions that question as part of her journey.
The Rebels family is back together
For viewers who regard Ahsoka as a live-action continuation of Star Wars Rebels, there is plenty to celebrate. Eman Esfandi returns as Ezra Bridger alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera Syndulla, while the footage offers a welcome reunion between Ezra and Zeb Orrelios.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo is also back as Sabine Wren, with Ahsoka and Sabine still facing the immediate problem of escaping Peridea. Their situation is complicated by Ivanna Sakhno’s Shin Hati and Baylan Skoll, whose mysterious search for a powerful presence on the planet formed another of the first season’s unresolved storylines.
Rory McCann has assumed the role of Baylan following the death of Ray Stevenson in May 2023. Lucasfilm previously confirmed that McCann would continue the character’s journey rather than removing Baylan from the story. The teaser provides the first substantial look at his interpretation without revealing exactly what the fallen Jedi has discovered.
Even Huyang appears prepared to enter the fight, with the ancient lightsaber-building droid shown becoming considerably more active than audiences may expect. As ever with trailer editing, the context surrounding individual confrontations should be treated cautiously until the episodes arrive.
Ahsoka Season 2 now has a firm release date
Lucasfilm announced in May 2026 that the second season would premiere in early 2027, but the teaser finally narrows that window to 20 January 2027. Rosario Dawson returns in the title role, with Dave Filoni continuing as the show’s creator.

The lengthy wait between seasons has created plenty of expectations, but the first footage makes a strong case for patience. Thrawn finally has room to operate as a galactic antagonist, the surviving Ghost crew is moving back together and Ahsoka’s relationship with Anakin remains emotionally unresolved.
