Overview
Polar follows the story of Duncan Vizla (Mads Mikkelsen), a retired assassin known as “The Black Kaiser,” who has spent years eliminating targets for a shady organization. When Duncan decides to retire and live a quiet life, his former employer, the Damocles corporation, marks him for death, fearing that his retirement will expose the company’s dark dealings. To eliminate Duncan, the organization sends a team of young, ruthless killers led by the sadistic and cold-hearted Viktoria (Katheryn Winnick).
As Duncan finds himself in a violent fight for survival, he must face the people he used to work for, while dealing with his inner demons and a betrayal that shakes him to his core. Along the way, Duncan forms an unlikely alliance with Camila (Vanessa Hudgens), a young woman trying to escape her past. Together, they navigate a world filled with deception, bloodshed, and vengeance.
Set in a stylish and grimy world, Polar is filled with over-the-top action sequences, dark humor, and graphic violence. Duncan must use every bit of his lethal training to survive and seek revenge on those who betrayed him, all while confronting the idea of redemption in a morally gray world.

CMDB Review
We have rated this 6 out of 10. Polar is an action-packed, violent, and occasionally darkly humorous film, but its over-the-top nature and style often overshadow its substance. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the movie, based on the graphic novel Polar: Came From the Cold, has a gritty, comic book-inspired aesthetic, with vibrant visuals and exaggerated action sequences that deliver some adrenaline-pumping moments. Mads Mikkelsen’s performance as the stoic, emotionally complex Duncan Vizla is one of the film’s highlights, as he brings depth to the character despite the sometimes shallow material.
The film is undeniably stylish, with its bold color palette and graphic violence that recalls films like John Wick and Crank. However, Polar suffers from a lack of character development, with many of the supporting characters, including the villains, feeling one-dimensional and overly caricatured. The pacing also falters, as the film spends too much time on chaotic action without fully exploring the motivations behind the characters.
Despite the film’s flaws, Polar still has its moments of fun, especially for fans of fast-paced, blood-soaked action. The dark humor and stylish direction keep things from becoming too monotonous, though the film ultimately doesn’t offer much beyond its visual appeal. While Polar is an enjoyable ride for action fans, it fails to leave a lasting impression. 6/10.
