7/10 Rating
The dead speak! A mysterious broadcast from the long-thought-dead Emperor Palpatine sends shockwaves through the galaxy. As the Resistance scrambles to respond, Rey, now a powerful Jedi-in-training, sets off with Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, and C-3PO on a desperate quest to uncover the truth behind Palpatine’s return and stop the Final Order.
As Kylo Ren tracks Rey with the intention of turning her to the dark side, secrets of Rey’s lineage are revealed that could shift the balance of the Force forever. The Resistance prepares for one last stand against the massive fleet of Sith loyalists, while Rey must face her greatest fear — and make a final choice about who she is meant to be.
With battles across the stars, surprise returns, and emotional farewells, The Rise of Skywalker brings the Skywalker Saga to an epic conclusion.
We rated The Rise of Skywalker a 7/10 — an action-packed and visually impressive finale that delivers fan service and resolution, though not without flaws.
The film races through its story at hyperspeed, trying to answer lingering questions and tie up loose ends from the trilogy. The return of Emperor Palpatine introduces a darker, mythic tone, but also raises questions that the story doesn’t always have time to explore deeply. The twist of Rey’s heritage adds high stakes but also divides fans who preferred her as a “nobody.”
The action sequences are stunning — from lightsaber duels atop a crumbling Death Star to the massive space battle over Exegol. The emotional beats, particularly between Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and Rey, resonate powerfully and give depth to their connection. The film also pays tribute to Leia Organa, using unreleased footage of Carrie Fisher in a respectful way.
Though its breakneck pace and plot conveniences may frustrate some, The Rise of Skywalker provides a satisfying and emotional ending to the decades-spanning Skywalker saga.
