In a universe where peace is maintained by an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, a new hero must rise. When a dying alien named Abin Sur crash-lands on Earth, his mystical green ring seeks out a new bearer — test pilot Hal Jordan. Chosen for his ability to overcome fear, Hal becomes the first human ever inducted into the Corps.
As Hal struggles with his responsibilities and self-doubt, a new cosmic threat emerges: Parallax, a fear-driven entity threatening to consume the universe. With Earth in its path and the Corps hesitant to intervene, Hal must learn to harness the ring’s power, conquer his fears, and prove he’s worthy of the mantle of Green Lantern.
Green Lantern had massive potential, with rich cosmic lore and one of DC’s most powerful heroes at its center. Ryan Reynolds gives a charismatic performance, but the film suffers from uneven pacing, an overuse of CGI, and a lack of emotional depth. While some action scenes and world-building are enjoyable, it never fully lands the heroic weight or narrative ambition it aims for.
We rated this 5/10 — it’s not without charm, but it definitely feels like it was missing something. A better villain, stronger script, and more practical effects could’ve made this a game-changer. Instead, it remains a missed opportunity.
