8/10 Rating
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set in a world where the arrival of Superman (Henry Cavill) has left a profound impact on humanity. After the destructive battle between Superman and General Zod in Man of Steel (2013), Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck), who witnessed the devastation in Metropolis, grows increasingly distrustful of Superman’s power. As Superman becomes a global figure, Bruce sees him as a potential threat to humanity’s safety.
As tensions rise, the two iconic heroes find themselves at odds. Bruce Wayne, operating as Batman, believes that Superman must be stopped before he becomes too powerful, leading him to prepare for a confrontation. Meanwhile, Superman, questioning Batman’s methods, begins to investigate the dark vigilante’s actions in Gotham City. The film delves into their philosophical differences and the moral dilemmas they face as they prepare to clash.
At the same time, the mysterious Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) manipulates events behind the scenes, fueling the conflict between Batman and Superman. Luthor’s ultimate plan is to create a weapon capable of destroying Superman, leading to a showdown between the two heroes. Their fight is interrupted by the emergence of Doomsday, forcing the unlikely allies to join forces to save the world.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a bold, ambitious film that brings together two of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film explores the darker side of heroism and the consequences of unchecked power. Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman offers a grizzled, older version of the character, who is emotionally scarred and determined to rid the world of threats, even if that means confronting Superman.
Henry Cavill’s Superman remains a symbol of hope, but his character grapples with the weight of his actions and the impact of his godlike powers. The film explores their philosophical differences, which ultimately lead to a showdown that serves as both a physical and ideological battle.
The visual effects, particularly the CGI-heavy fight scenes, are impressive, and the film is filled with spectacle, but the pacing and tone are inconsistent. While the conflict between Batman and Superman is compelling, the film often feels weighed down by its dark, brooding atmosphere and lack of character development for some of its supporting characters, including Lex Luthor.
Despite its flaws, Batman v Superman is a visually striking film that sets the stage for future DCEU stories. It provides a compelling foundation for the Justice League and introduces themes of responsibility, power, and justice. 8/10.
