Supergirl Storyline
Supergirl is the 2026 DC Studios movie built around Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alcock. This version is not the 1984 Helen Slater film: it belongs to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe and is expected to lean into the more cosmic, bruised and rebellious side of Kara rather than simply retelling Superman’s origin with a cape swap.
Inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic run, the story follows Kara as she travels through space with Krypto and becomes drawn into a violent quest after meeting Ruthye Marye Knoll. With Craig Gillespie directing and a cast that includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham, this entry should give Comic Movie DB readers a very different kind of Kryptonian adventure: stranger planets, bigger emotions and a Supergirl who has lived through far more trauma than her Earth-raised cousin.

Supergirl has not been fully reviewed yet because this is a 2026 release, so we are treating this page as a preview rather than a final verdict. On paper, the project has one of the strongest hooks in the new DC slate: Kara Zor-El is not just Superman’s cousin, she is someone who survived Krypton’s destruction in a far harsher way and carries that damage into the wider galaxy.
If the finished film commits to the Woman of Tomorrow influence, it could be less clean-cut superhero comfort food and more of a cosmic revenge road movie with heart, anger and Krypto-shaped chaos. We will add a final rating once the film has been released and reviewed properly.
