Underworld: Blood Wars is the 2016 entry that continues Selene’s endless fight for survival as both vampires and Lycans close in around her. Hunted by enemies on every side, Selene is pulled into a new power struggle involving vampire covens, ancient rituals and Lycan forces seeking dominance. The film expands the world with new vampire factions and a colder, more mythic visual style, while still keeping the franchise’s trademark mix of gothic fantasy and action horror. As betrayals stack up and old alliances collapse, Selene is forced to evolve again if she wants to protect the future of her bloodline. Blood Wars acts as a later chapter in the franchise’s mythology, built for fans who have followed the vampire and Lycan conflict from the beginning.
We have rated Underworld: Blood Wars 7 out of 10, because while it is not the sharpest entry in the franchise, it still delivers enough gothic action and Selene coolness to keep fans entertained. Kate Beckinsale remains the strongest reason to watch, giving Selene that familiar mix of ice-cold warrior and wounded survivor. The story leans heavily into vampire politics, covens and supernatural destiny, which will work best for viewers already invested in the Underworld lore. The action is stylish, the atmosphere is suitably dark and the film does try to push Selene into a more mythic role. It is definitely a fans-first sequel rather than an easy starting point, but as another blood-soaked slice of gothic monster warfare, Blood Wars still has enough bite to justify the trip back into the shadows.
