Overview

WandaVision Storyline

WandaVision picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where Wanda Maximoff (aka the Scarlet Witch) is grieving the loss of Vision, who died in Infinity War. In a mysterious town called Westview, Wanda and Vision appear to be living an idyllic suburban life — but something is clearly not right.

The show unfolds like a journey through TV history, with each episode styled after different decades of sitcoms, from the 1950s to the 2000s. As the illusion begins to crack, outside forces — including S.W.O.R.D. and familiar faces like Darcy Lewis, Jimmy Woo, and Monica Rambeau — try to understand what Wanda has created.

Wanda’s grief has manifested into a powerful alternate reality, trapping an entire town inside her perfect world. But things escalate with the reveal of Agatha Harkness, a fellow magic-user who’s been manipulating events behind the scenes. As Wanda confronts the truth and her powers, the series lays the groundwork for the multiverse, chaos magic, and the darker side of her identity as the Scarlet Witch.

WandaVision Review 8/10

8

We have rated this 8 out of 10. We gave WandaVision a solid 8/10 for its bold creativity, emotional depth, and stunning character evolution.

This was Marvel’s first foray into Disney+ storytelling, and it delivered something refreshingly different. Rather than starting with explosions and battles, WandaVision hooks viewers with intrigue, mystery, and surreal storytelling. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany give standout performances, navigating comedy, tragedy, and romance with impressive range.

We especially loved how the show slowly peeled back its layers — from light-hearted sitcom tributes to intense emotional revelations. The twist that “it was Agatha all along” was not only a fan-favorite moment, but a clever way to blend new characters with Wanda’s origin. Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha became an instant icon.

The emotional stakes are high, and Wanda’s transformation into the Scarlet Witch felt earned and powerful. The finale provided satisfying payoffs while opening doors for the multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and beyond.

While not every mystery paid off in fan theory terms, the show excelled at blending style and substance — and it firmly placed Wanda as one of the MCU’s most complex and compelling characters.

Did You Know?

  • Each episode mimicked the style of a different sitcom era, with authentic costumes, sets, and even period-specific filming techniques, including black-and-white and 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The sitcom inspiration came directly from Kevin Feige’s childhood love of classic American TV, which he wanted to use as a metaphor for escapism and grief.
  • The audience laughter in early episodes was recorded live, just like in real sitcoms of the 50s and 60s.
  • Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) was kept a secret until her reveal in Episode 7 — and her musical number “Agatha All Along” won an Emmy.
  • Monica Rambeau’s transformation into Photon sets her up for a bigger role in The Marvels (2023).
  • Evan Peters’ casting as “Pietro” was a nod to the X-Men universe, fueling multiverse speculation — though it turned out to be a fakeout.
  • The post-credit scene hints at Wanda studying the Darkhold and hearing the voices of her children — directly setting up her return in Multiverse of Madness.
