Overview

R.I.P.D. Storyline

R.I.P.D. follows murdered detective Nick Walker, who is recruited into the Rest In Peace Department, a supernatural police force that tracks down dead criminals hiding among the living. Partnered with old-school lawman Roy Pulsipher, Nick uncovers a conspiracy tied to his own death. Based on the Dark Horse comic, it mixes buddy-cop action with afterlife weirdness. R.I.P.D. is a Dark Horse Comics screen adaptation from 2013, sitting in the wider Comic Movie DB archive as one of the movie entries that helps connect page-to-screen storytelling beyond the obvious cape-and-cowl crowd. The page is especially useful for readers tracking the people involved, with Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Miller, Ryan Reynolds, Stephanie Szostak among the main names connected to the project. Its fantasy angle gives the page a clear hook for fans comparing it against other comic-inspired releases, cult favourites and franchise instalments. We have rated this 6 out of 10, which makes it a worthwhile entry to revisit when comparing how well comic properties translate across different studios, eras and audience expectations. For SEO and fan discovery, it belongs here because it adds context to the bigger comic movie timeline: not every adaptation has to be perfect, but each one says something about the genre, the audience it was chasing and the kind of stories studios believed could work on screen.

R.I.P.D. Review 6/10

6

We have rated this 6 out of 10. R.I.P.D. is one of those films people compare to Men in Black immediately, and honestly they are not wrong. But if you accept the chaos, there is fun to be had. Ryan Reynolds plays frustrated sarcasm exactly as expected, Jeff Bridges sounds like he is acting through a mouthful of gravel, and the afterlife concept is entertaining enough to keep things moving. Not a classic, but definitely a comic adaptation with cult-watch potential.
