Ranking the Avengers is more complicated than deciding who can lift the most weight. Some heroes possess incredible physical strength, while others can manipulate magic, energy or reality itself.

Based primarily on what the characters have demonstrated on screen, these Avengers sit at the top of the MCU power scale.

Thor has survived the force of a dying star, battled Hulk, fought armies across the Nine Realms and came dangerously close to defeating Thanos while the Mad Titan possessed all six Infinity Stones.

Stormbreaker dramatically increased his offensive power, while centuries of combat experience make Thor much more than raw muscle. When strength, durability and experience are combined, the God of Thunder remains one of the Avengers' most formidable fighters.

Carol Danvers operates on a completely different power scale from most Avengers. She can fly through space, absorb and project enormous amounts of energy and destroy massive spacecraft without needing a weapon.

Tony Stark proves that power does not need to come from magic or superhuman genetics. His increasingly advanced Iron Man armour allowed an ordinary human to fight alongside gods and eventually confront Thanos.

The nanotechnology armour seen during the Infinity Saga could create weapons instantly, survive extreme punishment and even draw blood from Thanos. Tony's greatest weapon, however, was always his intelligence and ability to adapt.

Peter Parker is considerably stronger than his appearance suggests. He has caught heavy objects, survived brutal attacks and even temporarily prevented the Winter Soldier's metal arm from moving.

Spider-Man's combination of strength, speed, agility and Spider-Sense gives him enormous potential, but his relative lack of experience keeps him below the veteran Avengers for now.

Steve Rogers may not possess cosmic energy or reality-altering magic, but few Avengers can match his combination of enhanced strength, tactical intelligence and determination.
